FLORIS Sustainability Strategy

Responsibility for human, the environment and society

We show that catering can also be sustainable and want to be a pioneer in the catering and event industry with our many years of experience. From fair and environmentally friendly food to a sustainable supply chain and conscious office management - sustainability is at the heart of our corporate philosophy! However, long-term sustainability means constantly scrutinizing, restructuring and developing. With the FLORIS sustainability strategy, we want to show what this means in our company and how we want to continuously improve. After all, sustainable catering means much more than just offering regional and seasonal products - it addresses environmental, economic, and social issues and responsibilities!

With our Sustainability Vision 2035, we illustrate our goals and show that a sustainability strategy is a living product - driven by concrete projects and ambitions.

ENVIRONMENT

For over 13 years, FLORIS has taken ecological responsibility by incorporating many environmental aspects into our services and our company. We ensure a responsible approach to our environment and its resources.

With these measures, FLORIS is making a significant contribution to protecting our environment:

  • The complete compensation of our CO² emissions through KlimaInvest. FLORIS is 100% climate neutral. Further information can be found here.
  • The purchase of 100% green electricity
  • The use of fair, regional and seasonal products. We prefer to use products from organic, regional and seasonal cultivation and thus not only support environmental protection, but also farmers from the region.
  • Avoiding food waste. With the help of food donations, our best leftovers box and our composting facility, we avoid food waste or reuse it sustainably. You can find more information about food donations here and more information about our composting facility here
  • The use of sustainable decoration and sustainable consumables. Decorations are often associated with a lot of waste. Since 2019, we have not used fresh cut flowers - we decorate our events sustainably with potted plants and reusable decorations.
We also use other consumables sustainably. You can find our commitment to this
    here.
  • Sustainable office management. For us, sustainability begins in our day-to-day work. With customised concepts for our offices and production facilities, we save resources and live environmental protection directly in the workplace.
  • The promotion of biodiversity. FLORIS contributes directly to the promotion and preservation of biodiversity by having a particularly green company site with flower meadows for bees or a bee hotel. FLORIS Catering is committed to the "Berlin Strategy for Biological Diversity".

We can always become a little more sustainable! Environmental goals and visions at FLORIS:

  • Generate almost no food waste. This is a big task for a catering company, but by logging and analysing food waste, we aim to optimise the calculation of our products as much as possible so that only the smallest amount of waste is produced, which can then be recycled through food donations or reuse.
  • Being 100% sustainable on the road. FLORIS is already offsetting its CO² emissions, but in the long term we want to avoid generating them in the first place. By purchasing e-vehicles, we also aim to make our delivery routes particularly sustainable.
  • An even greener FLORIS site. We want to constantly optimise our company premises and make them even greener. In the long term, more raised beds will be used to obtain fresh produce from the garden, a rainwater recovery system will utilise our water and solar cells will generate our own electricity. You can find out more here
  • Perfect waste management at our events. We want to be able to separate waste perfectly not only in our offices, but also at events - no matter where we are and no matter how stressful an event may be.

SOCIETY

FLORIS takes social responsibility by recognizing that the company cannot exist without its employees. We have a responsibility to act respectfully and as a role model. We ensure that people are treated responsibly as a resource.

With these measures, FLORIS makes a significant contribution to the promotion and development of our company:

  • FLORIS is a training centre for event management assistants and chefs. We also support the preservation of our job profile and the training of the next generation through school internships and the Girls' & Boys' Day project.
  • Recognising and promoting diversity issues. FLORIS attaches great importance to an equal opportunities remuneration policy, equal pay for men and women and supporting the needs of every employee. Everyone should feel comfortable and recognised at FLORIS - regardless of age, gender, ethnic origin or religion.
  • Providing employees with personal and professional development. Through regular development meetings and potential analyses, we are constantly working on new goals for our employees. New areas of responsibility as well as internal and external training courses are used for continuous further training - both personally and professionally.
  • Involving employees in decision-making processes. Our employees are directly involved in decision-making processes through regular consultations, themed meetings and working groups and are thus involved in the organisation and direction of the company and its services. We rely on the ideas and co-design of our employees!
  • We live appreciation. We offer our employees free, fresh lunches, flexible working hours where possible and additional incentives such as bonuses. We also show our appreciation of their work through small tokens of appreciation in everyday office life.
  • We are socially committed. We support individual projects, organisations and events with regular sponsorship and donations. As a member of various associations and societies, we are also involved in the event and catering industry and in our region - for its preservation and for its importance. You can find our donation and sponsorship guidelines here.

Promoting people and their development! Social goals and visions at FLORIS:

  • Remain an attractive trainer. We want to manage to keep the training profession attractive despite the declining overall interest and to inspire young people for the industry. We want to maintain the number of trainees in our company.
  • Create more time and importance for the individual development of our employees. We want to increase the range of external and internal training and development programmes for our employees and thus create more opportunities to develop their individual strengths and interests. At FLORIS, every employee should be able to realise and develop their potential to the best of their ability!
  • Increase donations and sponsorship. In the long term, we want to steadily increase our social contribution from donations and sponsorships through broader cooperation with projects and associations.

ECONOMY

FLORIS takes economic responsibility by understanding that the company cannot exist sustainably without economic security. We have a responsibility to act with moderate growth and manageable risk.

With these measures, FLORIS is making a significant contribution to the growth and stabilisation of our economy:

  • Sustainable complaints management. We take internal and external complaints particularly seriously and practise active complaint management. We use an internal feedback form for all departments and individual analyses to constantly optimise our processes and products - the basis for safeguarding and continuously developing our quality management.
  • Active corporate communication. Through regular dialogue with our most important stakeholders, such as employees, suppliers and customers, we engage in active corporate communication. This enables us to recognise and address needs, wishes or problems at an early stage and ensure good cooperation.
  • Active risk management. FLORIS works on the basis of a customised risk concept. With the help of risk factors and risk levels, we stabilise our business and the economic responsibility of the company.
  • We are a driver of innovation. By developing original products and new event concepts, we are constantly advancing the event and catering industry.
  • Transparent cost management. From the quotation to the final invoice, we have detailed cost calculations, post-calculations, margin agreements and value-added processes - and thus offer our customers and service providers full transparency and planning security.
  • A conscious supply and value chain. We ask our suppliers about ecological, ethical and social aspects and oblige them to comply with the applicable laws. In addition, we compare the criteria we ask our suppliers to fulfil and select particularly sustainable suppliers wherever possible. As a company, FLORIS has also committed itself to continuing to organise the supply and value chain as sustainably as possible.

Further stabilizing and strengthening the economy! Economic goals and visions at FLORIS:

  • Sourcing the most sustainable suppliers. We scrutinize suppliers for ecological, social and ethical aspects - in the long term, we would like to be able to source the best suppliers in terms of sustainability through broader enquiries.
  • Develop the best products and event concepts. We want to further develop our working groups and use the creativity of our employees to develop the latest ideas and become even more individualized.

CORPORATE AND ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITY

FLORIS takes ethical responsibility in its actions as a company with its management. Here we have a responsibility to act respectfully, as a role model and to communicate clearly. We ensure that this responsibility is handled responsibly.
We value every individual, regardless of their origin, religion, gender or disability. Racism and marginalization are not tolerated at FLORIS. We comply with the legal obligations to ensure occupational health and safety.
We promote the quota for women at FLORIS and are in favour of employing people of foreign origin. We co-operate with a Dutch university (HAS) and regularly facilitate international study internships.

The managing directors and owners of FLORIS Catering are committed to the content of this sustainability pledge and promote its continuous development.
